About Me

Joyce (Joy) has over 25 years of work experience, which includes Social Work with the West Virginia Department of Human Services, and Recreation Therapy and Special Projects with the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services. Her seasoned life experience allows her to be able to identify with and develop an effective therapeutic client/therapist work relationship with a variety of ages and types of clients. Joyce has a master’s degree in social work from West Virginia University and has a Licensed Graduate Social Worker License from the West Virginia Board of Social Work. Joyce is currently gaining experience and required therapy hours at Exhale Behavioral Health in Berryville, to obtain her Licensed Clinical Social Worker License from the Virginia Board of Social Work. Joyce also has a master’s degree in Recreation Therapy from Indiana University, Bloomington, IN. Joyce uses a holistic approach to therapy, with the understanding that the physical, cognitive, social/emotional, and spiritual aspects of ourselves are all important and impact each other. Joy often incorporates therapeutic activities into her sessions and collaborates with clients to help address their needs and goals. Joyce’s treatment sessions are informed by Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy.

Joy is married to her husband Bill, and they have two young adult children whom they adopted as infants/toddlers. Joy loves animals and has a dog and three cats. Joy enjoys teaching Balance and Mobility classes to older adults at Clarke County Parks and Recreation. Joy also enjoys teaching small groups at her church, exercising at her gym, and gardening.
